The planking handles can be rotated in four different directions and locked at four different heights in each direction, giving a total of 16 different positions. From rehab clients to athletes, planking handles can be used by everyone. While the handles are great for plank-based exercises, they are also great for clients with carpal tunnel syndrome, RSI, arthritis, and difficulty being able to hold weight on the footbar for any length of time.
Alternately, this position can ease pain and discomfort through the wrists. The handle acts as an extended footbar when rotated externally. In exercises off set to the reformer, such as the scooter exercise, this allows for better postural alignment.
A wider footbar can also be used for larger clients, be it hands on bar or feet on bar, or as a support point for standing rehab exercises. A planking handle also has the advantage of being able to be used in offset positions, eg. One high, one low, or one facing the footbar end and the other the head end.
It allows for some really challenging exercises and is especially useful for reducing the influence of a dominant arm or leg. Plank handles can also be used with our Combo Pilates Chair to gain similar benefits.
